The Eagles are a rock band from Los Angeles, California, that formed in 1971. The Eagles were one of North America’s most successful musical acts of the 1970s, with five number-one singles and six number-one albums, as well as six Grammy Awards and five American Music Awards.

Linda Ronstadt recruited founding members Glenn Frey (guitars, vocals), Don Henley (drums, vocals), Bernie Leadon (guitars, vocals), and Randy Meisner (bass guitar, vocals) as band members, some of whom toured with her and all of whom played on her third solo album before venturing out on their own on David Geffen’s new Asylum Records label.

Eagles (1972), their debut album, had two top-20 singles in the United States and Canada: “Take It Easy” and “Witchy Woman.” Desperado, the next year’s follow-up, barely reached number 41 in the United States, despite the fact that “Desperado” became a popular song. In 1974, guitarist Don Felder joined the band.

On the Border produced the top 40 smash “Already Gone” as well as the Eagles’ first number-one single in the US and Canada, “Best of My Love,” which also charted in the top 15 in Australia. One of These Nights was their first number-one album in the United States and a top-10 album in many other countries when it was released in 1975.

It featured the number-one success in the United States, “One of These Nights,” as well as the top-five hits “Lyin’ Eyes” and “Take It to the Limit,” which were their first top-10 hits outside of North America. Joe Walsh, a guitarist and singer, took over Leadon’s spot in 1975. Despite Henley’s previous pronouncements, the band continued to tour and headlined Irving Azoff’s Classic West and Classic East concerts in July 2017.

Deacon Frey, Glenn Frey’s son, and Vince Gill, a country artist, performed in his father’s place.  Bob Seger sang “Heartache Tonight,” a song he co-wrote, during the Classic West concert. In 2017, the band released their first and only studio album without Glenn Frey. For the 2017 CD “A Tribute to Dan Fogelberg,” the band covered Dan Fogelberg’s “Part of the Plan.” .

In March 2018, he embarked on another North American tour with Gill and Deacon Frey. For this leg of the tour, Henley’s son Will joined the band as a guitarist. In early 2019, the Eagles performed in Europe and Oceania.During three shows at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in September–October 2019, the band performed its 1976 album Hotel California in its entirety.

new set of the band’s greatest hits was also performed at the gigs. With a 46-piece orchestra and a 22-voice choir, the lineup comprised Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, Deacon Frey, and Vince Gill. The band announced the “Hotel California 2020 Tour” after the Las Vegas gigs, which would take place in six cities between February 7 and April 18, 2020.

In July 2020, video from the band’s 2018 tours will be broadcast on ESPN as part of a concert TV special, with a live CD following in October. This will be the first release with new band members Deacon Frey and Gill, as well as the first following Glenn Frey’s death and the first live release.

Hundreds of artists’ master tapes were destroyed in the Universal fire in 2008, including the Eagles. The Eagles’ general style has been defined as “California rock,” with influences from 1960s rhythm and blues, soul, bluegrass, and rock bands like the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield.

“No one knew fully what ‘California rock’ meant – except possibly that, because everything was possible in California, music that originated from that promising area was more free-spirited and free-ranging,” Sal Manna, author of the CD sleeve notes for the band’s 1994 album Hell Freezes Over, puts it.

“Country-tinged vocal harmonies with hard rock guitars and lyrics” was how Rolling Stone described the Eagles’ sound. The group’s sound has also been compared to country rock. The ensemble mixed rock & roll, country, and folk music influences on their early releases. For their third album, On the Border, the band broadened their music to incorporate a major hard rock sound.

which they had barely dabbled in before. The trio experimented with a gentler sound with their 1975 follow-up album One of These Nights, which included the hit singles “Take It to the Limit” and “Lyin’ Eyes.”  After the album’s release, Leadon, the band’s main country influence, quit, and Hotel California took a more rock path.

The band explored country music, blues rock, and funk in their 2007 comeback album Long Road Out of Eden. With 38 million copies sold, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) (1976) is the best-selling album in the United States, and it prepared the public for the release of Hotel California in late 1976, which would sell more than 26 million copies in the United States (ranking third all-time for US sales), and more than 32 million copies worldwide.

The album produced two number-one singles in the United States and Canada, “New Kid in Town” and “Hotel California,” the latter of which became their only top-10 hit in the United Kingdom, as well as top 10 hits in New Zealand and a number of European nations, including number two in France.

In 1977, Timothy B. Schmit took the place of Meisner. The Long Run was the Eagles’ last studio album in nearly 28 years, and it produced the North American number-one song “Heartache Tonight,” which went on to become their biggest hit in Australia (number 13), as well as the North American top-10 hits “The Long Run” and “I Can’t Tell You Why.”

The Eagles disbanded in 1980, but reformed in 1994 for the album Hell Freezes Over, which featured a mix of live and new studio compositions, and continued to tour. Long Road Out of Eden was the Eagles’ sixth number-one album in the United States when it was released in 2007, and the Long Road Out of Eden Tour began in 2008.

They started the extended History of the Eagles Tour in 2013 to coincide with the premiere of the documentary History of the Eagles. The Eagles reformed in 2017 after Frey’s death in January 2016, with Deacon Frey, Glenn’s son, and Vince Gill sharing lead vocals on Frey’s songs.

The Eagles are one of the best-selling bands in the world, with over 200 million albums sold worldwide[2], including 100 million in the United States alone. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and ranked 75th on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” list in 2004.
