FC Bayern München (German pronunciation: [fusbalklp ban mnçn]), sometimes known as FCB, Bayern Munich, or FC Bayern, is a German professional football club headquartered in Munich, Bavaria. It is most known for its professional football team, which competes in the Bundesliga, Germany’s highest division.

Bayern Munich is Germany’s most successful club, having won a record 31 national titles, including nine in a row since 2013, as well as 20 national cups and multiple European triumphs. In 1900, 11 footballers led by Franz John created FC Bayern Munich.Despite winning its first national title in 1932, Bayern was not invited to join the Bundesliga when it was founded in 1963.

The club’s most successful spell was during the mid-1970s, when it won the European Cup three years in a row (1974–1976) under the captaincy of Franz Beckenbauer. Bayern has won six European Cup/UEFA Champions League trophies in total (a German record), with the sixth trophy coming in the final of the 2020 season as part of a seasonal treble, making it only the second European club to do so twice. Bayern has also won one UEFA Cup, one European Cup Winners’ Cup, two UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Team World Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups, making them one of the most successful European clubs in terms of international competition and the only German club to do so.

Bayern Munich became become the second club to accomplish the sextuple by winning the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup. Bayern Munich is the only German team to have won all three of UEFA’s major club competitions. Bayern Munich is the current UEFA club champion as of May 2021. Since the mid-1990s, the team has had traditional rivalries with 1860 Munich, 1. FC Nürnberg, and Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich has played its home games at the Allianz Arena since the start of the 2005–06 season. The team had previously spent 33 years in the Olympiastadion in Munich. The team’s colours are red and white, and the crest features the Bavarian flag, which is white and blue. Bayern Munich, with a valuation of €634.1 million in 2021, is Germany’s largest sports club and the world’s third highest-earning football club, behind FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Bayern had 293,000 official members and 4,499 registered fan clubs with over 350,000 members as of November 2019. Chess, handball, basketball, gymnastics, bowling, table tennis, and senior football are among the club’s other departments, which have more than 1,100 members. On July 1, 2019, Hansi Flick started as an assistant coach for Bayern Munich.

After

a 5–1 defeat to Frankfurt, Kova and Bayern parted ways on November 3, 2019, with Flick promoted to interim manager.  On December 22, 2019, Bayern confirmed that Flick would stay on as interim coach until the conclusion of the season after a successful stint as interim coach.

Bayern’s on-field performances improved substantially, and Flick signed a new permanent deal with the club in April 2020, which runs until 2023.  Under Flick, the team won the league and then the cup, making it the club’s 13th domestic double. Bayern reached their first Champions League final since 2013, defeating FC Barcelona 8–2 in the quarterfinals and Lyon 3–0 in the semifinals.

They defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1–0 in the final, which took place behind closed doors in Lisbon due to the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kingsley Coman, a former PSG striker, scored the game’s sole goal.  With the win, they matched FC Barcelona’s 2014–15 season by becoming the second European club to win the seasonal triple in two consecutive seasons.

Bayern began the new season by winning the UEFA Super Cup for the second time in club history, following a brief layoff. Bayern defeated Sevilla 2–1 after extra time in a tightly contested encounter, with Javi Martnez scoring the game-winning goal.  After defeating the Bundesliga runners-up Dortmund 3–2, they won the 2020 DFL-Supercup on September 30, 2020.

They won the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup (postponed from December 2020 because to the COVID-19 pandemic) in February 2021, defeating African champions Al Ahly SC 2–0 and then Tigres UANL 1–0 in the final, becoming only the second club to win the sextuple after Barcelona in 2009.

After being eliminated in the quarter-finals by PSG, Bayern was unable to defend its Champions League crown. It did, however, win its 9th consecutive Bundesliga championship. After scoring 41 goals during the season, Robert Lewandowski eclipsed Gerd Müller’s record for most goals in a Bundesliga season.

Bayern Munich confirmed on April 27, 2021, that Flick would leave at the end of the season at his request, and that Julian Nagelsmann, the manager of RB Leipzig, will take over as the next manager on July 1. Bayern paid Leipzig €25 million as compensation for Nagelsmann’s services, according to several reports. This is a world record for a manager.

Later, it was revealed that Flick would be leaving to take over as head coach of the German national team, where he had previously served as an assistant coach under Joachim Löw. The squad adopted an all-white uniform with single vertical red and blue stripes on the shirt during the 1973–74 season.

Bayern’s home shirt has been predominantly red with white accents since 1974. Between 1995 and 1997, Bayern reintroduced its red and blue striped colour design. Adidas released an all-navy blue home uniform with a red chest band in 1997, marking the first time blue was the dominating colour.

Bayern reverted to a predominately red kit with blue sleeves in 1999, and in 2000, the club released an all-red Champions League kit with white trim.  Bayern also donned Rotwein-colored home uniforms in Bundesliga matches from 2001 to 2003, as well as during the 2006–07 Champions League season, to pay homage to their first-choice colours from the late 1960s.

White, black, blue, and gold-green have all been used in the club’s away kit over the years. Bayern has an international kit as well. Bayern used an all-red home uniform with a Bavarian flag diamond watermark design, a white and black Oktoberfest away kit inspired by Lederhosen, and an all-navy blue international kit during the 2013–14 season. When Bayern played at 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the 1980s and 1990s, they wore a special away shirt that represented the Brazilian colours of blue and yellow, a superstition based on the club’s struggles to win there.
