Cynthia Jeanne Shaheen is an American politician and former educator who has represented New Hampshire in the United States Senate since 2009. She is the first female senator from New Hampshire, the first female governor of the state, and the first woman elected as both a governor and a senator, with Maggie Hassan, the junior senator from New Hampshire and former governor of the state, being the second woman to hold both positions.
