Reeves keeps his spiritual ideas to himself, calling them “personal and private.” When asked if he is spiritual, he stated that he believes “in God, faith, inner faith, the self, passion, and things,” and that he is “quite spiritual” and “very bountiful.” Despite the fact that he does not formally practise Buddhism, the religion has made an indelible influence on him, particularly after the making of Little Buddha.

“Most of what I’ve taken away from Buddhism has been human—understanding sentiments, impermanence, and attempting to understand other people and where they’re coming from,” he added. “I know that the ones who love us will miss us,” Reeves said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2019 when questioned about what occurs after death.

Reeves is a supporter of a variety of organisations and causes. For the next few centuries, I could live on what I’ve already created.”

It was rumoured that Reeves gave away a large percentage of his earnings from The Matrix, estimated at $35–$125 million, to the special effects and makeup workers. Reeves was heading into Los Angeles in March 2019 when his aircraft was diverted to Bakersfield, California. Rather than waiting for the plane to be repaired, he hired a van to transport him and other passengers into the city. In July 2019, while filming Bill & Ted Face the Music, Reeves and the rest of the group stumbled across a house with a banner that stated “You’re Breathtaking” and “Mini Keanu,” two memes that arose from Reeves’ performance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2019 for the game Cyberpunk 2077. Reeves signed the banner and spoke with the family.

Siberia, in which he portrays a diamond merchant who journeys to Siberia in pursuit of his Russian lover, and Replicas, in which he plays a neuroscientist who breaks laws and breaks bioethics in order to bring his family back to life after they die in a car accident. Siberia was severely derided; critics said the plot was illogical, and Reeves and co-star Ana Ularu lacked chemistry.

Replicas received mixed reviews from critics; The A.V. Club commended Reeves’ acting but rated the film a D-, calling it “trash.”It was also a box office disappointment, grossing $9.3 million on a $30 million budget. Returning to the John Wick franchise, Reeves starred in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), director Chad Stahelski’s third instalment in the series. The film picks up just after the events of John Wick: Chapter 2 and introduces a new cast, including Halle Berry.

The movie was another box office success, grossing $171 million in the United States and more than $155 million worldwide.  The film received three out of four stars from the Globe and Mail critic, who praised the action scenes but thought the photography was “aesthetic overindulged.” Cath Clarke of The Guardian questioned Reeves’ acting, writing, “he keeps his face statue-still franchise bloat is beginning to set in three movies in.”

Finally, the third instalment of the franchise, Bill & Ted Face the Music, was released in 2020. The film’s theme that “music has the ability to unify the world” was commended by the critic from Salon magazine, who was underwhelmed with Reeves’ performance.  Entertainment Weekly’s Leah Greenblatt awarded the picture a B and praised Reeves and Winter’s onscreen chemistry.
