Mabel Alabama-Pearl McVey is an English-Swedish singer and songwriter who was born on February 19, 1996. a dual national of Sweden and Spain. Her breakthrough single, “Finders Keepers,” which peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart, came out in 2017.

2019 saw the release of High Expectations, her first studio album, which debuted at number three on the UK Albums Chart and was given a platinum certification. “Don’t Call Me Up,” “Mad Love,” and “Boyfriend,” three of the UK’s top-10 songs, were included.

Mabel is the step-granddaughter of renowned American jazz musician Don Cherry through her mother and the niece of Eagle-Eye Cherry, a vocalist. Other singers in the family include her sister Tyson, half-sister Naima, and half-brother Marlon Roudette.

Prior to Mabel’s birth, the family spent two years living in Alhaurn el Grande before returning to Notting Hill, West London, England, when she was two years old. She started teaching herself to read when she was four years old using phonetics and audio books, but soon anxiety set in as a result of her heightened sensitivity to her environment and experiences with racial bullying.

Mabel was encouraged to express herself through music and a notebook by her parents, who discouraged the use of medicine.  The following year, she began piano lessons and composed her debut song.  When she was eight years old, her family relocated to Sweden, where they resided at her mother’s childhood house in the countryside not far from Hässleholm.

Mabel began studying songwriting, music production, and music theory at the Stockholm music school Rytmus Musikergymnasiet when she was 15 years old. Mabel’s debut single, “Know Me Better,” was published in July 2015 after she relocated to London.

 

Annie Mac, a DJ on BBC Radio 1, selected the song as her Tune of the Week. Mabel agreed to a recording deal with Universal in a matter of weeks. After the singles “My Boy My Town” and “Thinking Of You” from 2015 and 2016, she released “Finders Keepers” in March 2017.

It featured British rapper Kojo Funds and peaked at number 10 on the UK Singles Chart in late 2017.  Her first extended play, titled Bedroom, was published in May 2017.The first track from Mabel’s debut mixtape Ivy to Roses, which was released shortly after, was “Begging” in October 2017. She co-wrote “My Lover” with Not3s in December.

Mabel supported English singer Harry Styles on his European leg of the second leg of a tour in support of his first studio album after the release of “Fine Line,” a second Not3s duet, in January 2018.Following her tour with Styles, she started her own headline trek around the UK and Europe.

She appeared on “Ring Ring” in June along with the American rapper Rich the Kid and the British DJ Jax Jones. She co-wrote the song “Blind” for the British girl group Four of Diamonds later that year, following the release of “One Shot.” Mabel was a 2019 Brit Awards nominee for British Breakthrough Act in January.

She released “Mad Love,” the follow-up single to her debut studio album High Expectations, on June 7, 2019. High Expectations was released on August 2, 2019. The song peaked at number 8 after debuting in the UK at number 18. After her holiday single Loneliest Time Of Year was released in November 2019, Mabel set out on the High Expectations Tour, travelling around North America, the United Kingdom, and Europe from January to March 2020.

She made the song “Boyfriend” available in February 2020.She later participated in a BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance of the Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These” with the Live Lounge Allstars. The continuous COVID-19 pandemic prompted the organisation of this.

Later that year, in July, Mabel worked on “West Ten”with AJ Tracey and released an acoustic edition of High Expectations. Clean Bandit released “Tick Tock” the following month with Mabel and 24kGoldn. On June 18, 2021, “Let Them Know” was launched after a teaser with the title “Allow me to reintroduce myself” was posted to her social media accounts in June 2021.

As part of the album commemorating Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, Mabel released the song “Take It Home” on July 16, 2021.  She performed on the Love Island reality series on ITV2 in August 2021. The song “I Wish” was released on October 29, 2021, by Mabel and Joel Corry.

The song propelled Mabel’s music career forward, quickly gaining popularity and thrusting her into the public eye. Since her debut with “Know Me Better,” Mabel has released a number of singles, including “Finders Keepers” in 2017—a platinum-selling song that spent five weeks in the top 10 and earned her a BRIT Award nomination.
