Zlatan Ibrahimovi (born 3 October 1981) is a Swedish striker who currently plays for Serie A club A.C. Milan as well as the Swedish national team. Ibrahimovi is largely considered to be one of the greatest strikers in history. He has won 31 awards in his career, making him one of the most decorated current players in the world. He has scored in each of the previous four decades and has a total of 570 career goals, including more than 500 club goals. Ibrahimovi began his career in 1999 with Malmö FF before joining Ajax two years later. Ibrahimovi established himself as one of Europe’s most talented attackers with Ajax before joining Juventus two years later.
Following the completion of Inter teammate Maxwell’s transfer to Barcelona, Barça president Joan Laporta revealed that Barcelona and Inter had reached an agreement in principle for Ibrahimovi to join the club in exchange for striker Samuel Eto’o and a rumoured sum of £59 million. Ibrahimovi departed Inter on July 23, 2009, during their World Football Challenge tour of the United States, to negotiate with Barcelona, and his final match for Inter was against Chelsea. After Inter and Barcelona agreed on terms with Eto’o and Ibrahimovi, Barcelona stated Ibrahimovi will come on July 26th and undergo a physical on July 27th. A.C. Milan confirmed on their official website on August 28, 2010, that they have signed Ibrahimovi for the 2010–11 season. He was loaned to Milan for the season, with the option for the club to buy him outright for €24 million at the end of it. Following his satisfactory completion of the medical checks, he promptly signed a four-year contract. “This move gives me greater adrenaline,” Ibrahimovi stated after signing. I came here to help Milan win the Champions League. I’d want to take home the double. On July 17, 2012, Paris Saint-Germain revealed that they had struck a deal with Milan to buy Ibrahimovi’s sporting and economic rights for a sum of €20 million, having already established personal terms with the striker. These payments, which totaled €180 million, were far more than Nicolas Anelka’s. His three-year contract would pay him a net yearly salary of €14 million, including bonuses (an increase of €2 million over what he was receiving before leaving Milan), making him the world’s second most paid player after Samuel Eto’o. PSG defeated Guingamp 2–0 on August 31, 2013, with Ibrahimovi scoring his first goal of the season late into stoppage time. On September 24, it was revealed that PSG had extended Ibrahimovi’s contract, which would keep him with the club until 2016. On the 2nd of October, the Swede scored twice as PSG defeated Benfica 3–0 in a Champions League group encounter. In PSG’s 4–0 triumph against Bastia on October 19, he scored two goals, one of which was an amazing volleyed back heel as he stretched beyond the defender to blast the ball into the net. The goal was later recognised as the public’s choice for Ligue 1’s Goal of the Season.
On August 2, 2014, against Guingamp in the 2014 Trophée des Champions, Ibrahimovi scored his first two goals for Paris Saint-Germain, claiming his first trophy of the season. Ibrahimovi scored twice in PSG’s 2–2 draw with Reims in the first league encounter of the season, although he also missed an open net and had a penalty saved. On August 31, Ibrahimovi scored his first hat-trick of the season in a match against Saint-Étienne. Ibrahimovi scored the game-winning goal in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue against Saint-Étienne on January 13, 2015. Fans tossed objects onto the pitch, stopping play for 10 minutes, while the home team claimed the ball had not crossed the line. Before the 2016–17 season, Ibrahimovi was given the number 9 jersey. Ibrahimovi scored the game-winning goal in the 2016 FA Community Shield for Manchester United, leaping above Wes Morgan to head past Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in a 2–1 win. This was his tenth domestic super cup, which set a new record. One week later, he scored in his Premier League debut, a long-range shot in a 3–1 away triumph against Bournemouth on the opening day. Before the 2019 season, Ibrahimovi was chosen captain of the team. He scored in the Galaxy’s first match, a 2–1 win over the Chicago Fire, on March 2, 2019. Ibrahimovi scored two penalty goals, one Panenka-style, in a 2–1 home win over the Portland Timbers on March 31st, in only his second appearance of the season. He surpassed fellow countryman Gunnar Nordahl to become the Swedish player with the most goals in football history with this goal. Ibrahimovi scored a fantastic hat-trick against Los Angeles FC on July 20, winning the game 3–2. This came after a debate on whether Ibrahimovi was the best player in Major League Soccer as compared to Los Angeles FC rivals. Ibrahimovi scored Milan’s first goal of the 2020–21 season in a 2–0 away win over Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League’s second qualifying round on September 17, 2020. He scored a brace in Milan’s first Serie A encounter, a 2–0 home win against Bologna, four days later. Ibrahimovi returned in the Derby della Madonnina on 17 October after missing three games due to COVID-19, scoring twice in three minutes as Milan defeated Inter 2–1. In a 3–3 home draw with Roma on October 26, he scored his third straight league brace. Ibrahimovi scored twice in a 3–1 away win over Napoli on November 22, his seventh straight league appearance with at least one goal.
