3 Doors Down is a 1996 American rock band from Escatawpa, Mississippi. Brad Arnold (lead vocals, drums), Matt Roberts (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Todd Harrell (bass) were the initial members of the band (bass guitar). The band became famous around the world after their first hit, “Kryptonite,” reached the top three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Better Life, the band’s debut album, was released in 2000 by Republic Records. The record went on to become the year’s 11th best-selling album and was certified 6x platinum in the United States. Later, the band was joined by drummer Richard Liles, who had previously played with them on their debut album’s tour.

Away from the Sun (2002), the band’s second album, extended their popularity; it debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 list, went multi-platinum in the United States, and generated the hits “When I’m Gone” and “Here Without You.” For two years, the band went on a lot of tours. From 2002 until 2006, Daniel Adair toured as a drummer. Following the publication of Away from the Sun, this lineup performed approximately 1,000 gigs all over the world.

Greg Upchurch (Puddle of Mudd) replaced Adair on drums in 2005. In 2005, 3 Doors Down released their third studio album, Seventeen Days. Within a month of its release, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum. 3 Doors Down (2008) and Time of My Life (2011), the band’s next two albums, debuted at No. 1 and No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, respectively.

Their most recent album, Us and the Night, was published in 2016, and as of 2019, they were working on new material for their seventh studio album. Brad Arnold was the lead vocalist and drummer at the time, Matt Roberts was the lead guitarist and backup vocalist, and Todd Harrell was the bass guitarist.

The band began touring outside of Escatawpa, Mississippi, and during a trip to Foley, Alabama, they decided on their formal name. When the three were wandering around town, they came across a building with several letters missing from its sign, which read “Doors Down.” Because the band was just three members at the time, they added the “3” to make “3 Doors Down.”

The clock on the record cover of their 2011 album Time of My Life indicates the original number of band members (3) and the current number of band members (5); the clock reads 3:05. The band had sold 12 million albums by the year 2005. Seventeen Days, the band’s third studio album released in 2005, was certified platinum. “Let Me Go” and “Behind Those Eyes” were the most successful singles from it. The songs “Live for Today,” “Landing in London,” and “Here by Me” (on which Bob Seger sung the second verse and contributed back-up vocals) were also released.

During

the Seventeen Days tour, the band shared the stage with Lynyrd Skynyrd as well as headlining many of their own shows.Later in 2005, the band released Away from the Sun: Live from Houston, Texas, a live DVD. Alex Gibney and Doug Biro, who have been nominated for an Academy Award, produced and directed the DVD. It includes songs from both The Better Life and Away from the Sun, as well as some early sketches for “It’s Not Me” and “Father’s Son,” both of which were later featured on Seventeen Days.

When Daniel Adair left to join Nickelback as a drummer and contributing member in 2005, Greg Upchurch, previously of Puddle of Mudd, took over. Down’s fifth studio album, Time of My Life, was released on July 19, 2011. On January 10, 2011, the band released “When You’re Young” as the album’s first single. The record peaked at number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.

On May 23, 2011, the album’s second single, “Every Time You Go,” was released digitally.  In support of the album, the band embarked on a tour across the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom in July 2011. The album opened at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in its first week, selling 59,800 copies. The band embarked on a six-week ‘Gang of Outlaws Tour’ alongside headliners ZZ Top and opening Gretchen Wilson beginning in May 2012.

Matt Roberts announced his departure from the band on May 23, 2012, to focus on his health. He said in a statement to fans that “3 Doors Down will always hold a particular place in my heart, and I’m sorry to be missing out on this opportunity. But my health must come first “,.  On Twitter, guitarist Chris Henderson announced that his old guitar tech, Chet Roberts, would be taking over lead guitar duties from Matt Roberts. Chris Henderson indicated in January 2014 that their new album would be released later that year.

The band travelled the United States on an acoustic tour named “Songs from the Basement” from the end of 2013 to the beginning of 2014. Todd Harrell was arrested for a DUI again in Mississippi in February 2014. Following that, the band issued a statement announcing that Harrell had left the band permanently and that Justin Biltonen would take his place. Henderson revealed the title of his new album, Us and the Night, in June. It was supposed to come out in September or November of 2015.

The album’s release date was officially disclosed in January 2016 as March 11, 2016. Following that, the band went on tour throughout North America, performing at events such as Fort Rock and Carolina Rebellion. 3 Doors Down performed a number of sold-out gigs in the United Kingdom and Europe. Brad Arnold revealed in July 2018 that 3 Doors Down was working on new material “Who knows when we’ll go back to it. We have, nevertheless, been writing new tunes. Maybe a single or a few of new songs will be released.

We may or may not release an album in the near future. We still enjoy developing new material; the problem is that there isn’t a market for it. Fans, on the other hand, continue to enjoy coming out to see us.”  Arnold announced in August 2019 that the band would shortly begin work on a follow-up to Us and the Night.3 Doors Down announced in July 2020 that they would be releasing a new song, the band’s first since their 2016 album Us and the Night.

The Better Life Foundation (TBLF) was founded by 3 Doors Down in 2003 with the purpose of giving as many children as possible a better life. Since its creation, the TBLF has sponsored a variety of organisations around the United States, including the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Habitat for Humanity, as well as providing help and assistance to the Gulf Coast region of Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina. Brad Arnold estimated that $900,000 had been raised in 2006.

When Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on the Mississippi hamlet of Waveland, the charity was able to acquire three police cars and a fire truck to aid rescue efforts. They were also able to provide the community with three semi-trucks loaded of rescue materials because to their partnership with Wal-Mart. TBLF also provided significant funds for the town’s restoration efforts.

The Better Life Foundation and 3 Doors Down put on an event every year to raise money for the organisation. The show has been performed at the Horseshoe Hotel and Casino in Tunica, Mississippi since 2010. The performance used to be held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. Aside from a concert by 3 Doors Down and guests, there will be an auction with items donated by musical friends, sports legends, and other supporters of the band and the organisation.

Every year, an average of sixty artefacts are auctioned off, with the earnings going to the TBLF. Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee, North Carolina hosts The Better Life Foundation annual benefit concert since 2016.Lynyrd Skynyrd, Shinedown, Alter Bridge, Staind, Hinder, Switchfoot, Tracy Lawrence, Sara Evans, and others have all performed in the past.
