Aaron Charles Rodgers, the son of Darla Leigh and Edward Wesley Rodgers, was born in Chico, California. Aaron’s father is a chiropractor from Texas who played offensive lineman for the Chico State Wildcats from 1973 to 1976. His ancestors are English, Irish, and German. Aaron attended Oak Manor Elementary School in Ukiah, California, after his family relocated there. Edward Rodgers threw a football with his sons Luke, Aaron, and Jordan and warned them not to drink or party in college or they would be limited in sports like he was. Tedford was taken aback when he learned that Rodgers had not been recruited earlier. Rodgers was able to transfer to the University of California, Berkeley after only one year of junior college, rather than the usual two, because of his strong high school academic record.

Rodgers spent his rookie season with the 4–12 Green Bay Packers as the backup quarterback to Brett Favre. He had to deal with a broken radio in his helmet as well as two offensive flags. Rodgers completed two of seven passes and was sacked twice in his first NFL game.
