Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgrd (born 25 August 1976) is a Swedish actor. His Swedish name is [alksndr sko] (About this soundlisten). He started acting when he was seven years old and stopped when he was thirteen. He returned to acting after serving in the Swedish military, landing his first role in the comedy Zoolander.

He starred in the 2008 miniseries Generation Kill as serviceman Brad Colbert. In the television series True Blood (2008–2014), he starred as vampire Eric Northman.e got a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Critics’ Choice Television Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role as an abusive husband in the drama series Big Little Lies (2017–2019).

He has a divorced mother and father. After six months in London, he returned to Stockholm, but his studies in theatre had reaffirmed his desire to act.

In Scott McGehee and David Siegel’s film What Maisie Knew, he co-starred with Julianne Moore and Steve Coogan and was based on the Henry James novel of the same name.  In Henry Alex Rubin’s thriller Disconnect, he played opposite Paula Patton as part of the ensemble cast.  In Zal Batmanglij’s 2013 film The East, Skarsgrd featured alongside Brit Marling and Elliot Page.

He played a man who starts an affair with his girlfriend’s underage daughter in the movie The Diary of a Teenage Girl.  In August of 2015, it was made available for purchase. Skarsgrd expressed his enthusiasm for playing the role “without explaining or approving” his behaviour, in addition to being deliberate about identifying nuances in the character’s predatory characteristics.

He portrayed Tarzan opposite Margot Robbie in the 2016 film The Legend of Tarzan. To prepare for the role, Skarsgrd worked out for 7 months. At the box office, the picture was a flop.  It garnered mixed reviews,with acclaim for Skarsgrd’s acting.  Later that year, he starred as a deviant cop in the black comedy War on Everyone.

Skarsgrd played Perry Wright, an abusive husband of Nicole Kidman’s character Celeste, in the drama series Big Little Lies from 2017 to 2019. He defined his persona as violent as a result of internal problems regarding his worries about his wife’s need for him. The show was well-received around the world.

Skarsgrd’s performance was “utterly frightening,” according to Daniel Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter, who reviewed the first season finale. For the role, Skarsgrd received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie in 2017.  In February 2018, he acted as a mute bartender in the science fiction thriller Mute, in which he played a futuristic bartender.

He played Canada’s Prime Minister in the romantic comedy Long Shot.

The Guardian’s Kristy Puchko praised Skarsgrd’s performance in the little role, saying that he “makes a feast out of it.”  It was released in May 2019 to mixed reviews. Skarsgrd played Randall Flagg, a seductive monster, in The Stand, a CBS All Access miniseries based on Stephen King’s 1978 novel.

From December 2020 to February 2021, it was open to the public.  He then starred in Godzilla vs. Kong, a monster film that received great reviews and commercial success in 2021. In the third season of the comedy-drama series Succession, Skarsgrd will make a guest appearance.  He’ll appear in The Northman, an epic picture, and Infinity Pool, a thriller.
