Ariana Grande-Butera ( born June 26, 1993) is a singer, songwriter, and actress from the United States. Her music has attracted extensive media notice, with her four-octave vocal range receiving critical acclaim. She has won two Grammy Awards, one Brit Award, two Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards, nine MTV Video Music Awards, and 27 Guinness World Records during her career.
Grande debuted on Broadway at the age of 15 in the musical 13 in 2008. She became well-known for her roles as Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon television shows Victorious (2010–2013) and Sam & Cat (2013–2014). After label executives saw YouTube recordings of her recreating songs, Grande signed with Republic Records in 2011. Joan Grande, the CEO of Hose-McCann Communications, a maker of communications and safety equipment, and Edward Butera, the proprietor of a graphic design firm in Boca Raton, are her parents. Grande is of Italian ancestry, describing herself as an Italian American with Sicilian and Abruzzese roots. Frankie Grande, her older half-brother, is an entertainer and producer, and she is close with her maternal grandmother, Marjorie Grande.

In December 2015, Grande also released her second Christmas EP, Christmas & Chill. On October 14, 2020, it was revealed that Grande would star in Don’t Look Up opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, and Meryl Streep. On December 24, 2021, the film was launched on Netflix, a streaming service. On December 3, 2021, Grande and rapper Kid Cudi collaborated on the single “Just Look Up” to promote the film.
As a member of the cast, Grande won nominated for Best Song and Best Acting Ensemble at the 27th Critics’ Choice Awards. On November 13, 2020, Grande made a surprise cameo at the Adult Swim Festival, performing “Them Changes,” a song by Thundercat that Grande had previously covered. A remix of Mariah Carey’s 2010 Christmas single “Oh Santa!” included Grande and Jennifer Hudson. On December 4, 2020, the song was released as part of Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special.
Excuse Me, I Love You, the concert film for Grande’s Sweetener World Tour, was released exclusively on Netflix on December 21, 2020. Grande was revealed as a member of the 21st season of The Voice’s coaching panel in March 2021. It was reported that she will be paid between $20 and $25 million per season, making her the show’s highest-paid coach.
Grande appeared in April on Demi Lovato’s song “Met Him Last Night,” which was released on April 1 as the fourth single from Lovato’s seventh studio album Dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over, and on a remix of the Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears,” which was released on April 23. The remix was the sixth number one song for both artists on the Billboard Hot 100. She and Paul McCartney are the only musicians to have three No. 1 duets on the Billboard Hot 100.
At the iHeartRadio Music Awards in 2021, Grande and the Weeknd sang “Save Your Tears” together. Grande appeared on Doja Cat’s third studio album Planet Her’s song “I Don’t Do Drugs” in June. Grande was nominated for Album of the Year at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards for her efforts as a lyricist and featured performer on the song. From August 6 to 8, 2021, Grande appeared as the virtual headlining act of the “Rift Tour” on the computer game Fortnite.
The event drew 78 million viewers, breaking Travis Scott’s previous record of 11.7 million for his own show. Grande was cast as Glinda in the upcoming film adaptation of the musical Wicked, directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, in November 2021.Grande has previously stated that she suffers from hypoglycemia, which she attributes to poor eating habits.
After the Manchester Arena bombing, she suffered from PTSD and anxiety, and she nearly backed out of her performance in the 2018 programme A Very Wicked Halloween due to her anxieties. Grande has also stated that she had been in therapy for almost a decade, beginning immediately after her parents’ divorce. Grande was raised Roman Catholic but left the church during Benedict XVI’s pontificate,
rejecting the church’s stance on homosexuality and pointing out that her half-brother Frankie is gay.She and Frankie have been studying Kabbalah, a branch of Jewish mysticism, since she was twelve years old. “The foundation lies in the belief that if you’re kind to others, wonderful things will happen to you,” she remarked.
Several of her songs, including “Break Your Heart Right Back,” are pro-LGBTQ. She’s also been dubbed “a proponent of a sex-positive mindset.”Grande supports Senator Bernie Sanders’ second presidential campaign in November 2019.
