He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for the latter.

Daniel Wroughton Craig (1943–2020), the son of Carol Olivia (née Williams), an art teacher, and Timothy John Wroughton Craig (1943–2020), a Merchant Navy midshipman and steel erector, was born in Chester on March 2, 1968. Under

the direction of director Edward Wilson, he toured with the National Youth Theatre to Valencia and Moscow. In 1988, he enrolled in the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he completed a three-year program under the direction of Colin McCormack, a Royal Shakespeare Company actor.

Eon Productions approached Craig in 2005 to play James Bond. He was initially apprehensive about the part and resisted the producers’ efforts. Barbara Broccoli, a long-time Bond co-producer, subsequently said in 2012, “There was a period of attempting to seduce him.”

During this time, he sought to advise from coworkers and friends, and “the majority of us said to him…’there is life beyond Bond.'” He admitted that he was “conscious of the challenges” of the Bond franchise, which he referred to as “a massive machine that earns a lot of money.” He wanted to give the character greater “emotional depth.”

Craig, who was born in 1968, is the first actor to play James Bond to be born after the Bond series began and after Ian Fleming, the novels’ author, died. The casting decision sparked a lot of debate. Online campaigns voiced their displeasure throughout the film’s creation and vowed to boycott the picture in protest.

Some protesters said Craig, who was blond and was 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 m), didn’t fit the taller, dark-haired Bond portrayed by past Bond actors, to whom audiences had grown used.  For example, former Bond actor John Cleese referred to Craig as a “small Welsh bandy-legged person” who “is just not tall enough and surely didn’t go to Eton.”

even though Craig’s selection was controversial, some actors publicly expressed their support. Four of the five actors who have previously played Bond – Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and Timothy Dalton – praised his casting.

In 2008, Connery commented on Craig’s casting as Bond, characterizing him as “wonderful, marvellous in the part.” George Lazenby, the other prior Bond actor, has recently expressed his appreciation of Craig. Craig was also defended by Clive Owen, who had been connected to the post.

The first Bond film, Casino Royale, was released on November 14, 2006, and grossed US$594,239,066 worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Bond film until Skyfall. Craig’s performance in the film received critical acclaim after its release.

Craig provided the voice and likeness of James Bond for both the Wii game GoldenEye 007 and James Bond 007: Blood Stone, which is an upgraded recreation of the 1997 Nintendo 64 game. In addition to Casino Royale, Craig participated in two more films in 2006.

The drama Infamous, in which he played mass killer Perry Edward Smith, and the English-language adaptation of the French animated picture Renaissance, in which he voiced the primary character.  Craig was inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2006.

Craig co-starred with Nicole Kidman in the science fiction horror film The Invasion in 2007, the fourth adaptation of Jack Finney’s novel The Body Snatchers, which was critically panned.  He played Lord Asriel in Philip Pullman’s novel The Golden Compass, adapted into a film in 2007.

Craig and actress Rachel Weisz had worked together on Les Grandes Horizon-tales and had known one other for a long time (1994). They started dating in December 2010 and married on June 22, 2011, in a secret ceremony in New York City with just four people present, including Craig’s daughter and Weisz’s son. According to From Russia, Ian Fleming’s James Bond received the same honor with Love. Craig was cited as stating in 2012 that he disliked and distrusted politics and politicians in general “Politicians are a bunch of jerks. That’s how politicians, even decent ones, get elected.

We’re performers, artists, and all polite to one another. They’re going to turn around and stab you in the back “. He has been especially harsh on Tony Blair, comparing Blair’s tendency for courting celebrities to the novel Mephisto. He also stated a dislike for interacting with politicians, claiming that doing so “automatically aligns you with a political party.”
