Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress who is best known for her role as Lady Gaga. Her image makeovers and musical diversity have made her famous. Gaga began her career as a performer when she was a teenager, singing at open mic nights and participating in school productions.

Before leaving out to pursue a career in music, she studied at Collaborative Arts Project 21 at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She worked as a songwriter for Sony/ATV Music Publishing after her contract with Def Jam Recordings was terminated, and in 2007 she signed a joint agreement with Interscope Records and Akon’s label, KonLive Distribution.

The Fame, Gaga’s debut studio album, and the chart-topping songs “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” catapulted her to stardom the following year. The Fame Monster EP (2009), which included the hit singles “Bad Romance,” “Telephone,” and “Alejandro,” was eventually reissued alongside the album.

All five of Gaga’s subsequent studio albums debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 in the United States. Born This Way (2011), her second full-length album, explored electronic rock and techno-pop and went platinum in its first week. With over one million downloads in under a week, the title track became the fastest-selling song on the iTunes Store. Following the release of her EDM-influenced third album, Artpop (2013), and its lead hit “Applause,” Gaga released the jazz album Cheek to Cheek (2014) with Tony Bennett, as well as the soft rock album Joanne (2015).

She has dabbled in acting, starring in the highly acclaimed musical drama film A Star Is Born (2015) and the miniseries American Horror Story: Hotel (2015–2016), for which she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress (2018). She became the first woman to win an Academy, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Grammy Award in the same year for her contributions to the latter’s soundtrack, which included the hit single “Shallow.”

Gaga’s sixth studio album, Chromatica (2020), had the number-one single “Rain on Me,” and was her first return to her dance-pop beginnings. In 2021, she released Love for Sale, her second collaboration album with Bennett, and starred in House of Gucci, a biographical crime film. Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta was born to an upper middle class Catholic family on March 28, 1986, at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, New York City.

Her parents are both of Italian descent, and she also has French-Canadian ancestors.  Cynthia Louise (née Bissett), a businesswoman and philanthropist, and Internet entrepreneur Joseph Germanotta are her parents, and she has a younger sister named Natali.  Gaga, who grew up on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, stated in an interview that her parents were from lower-middle-class households who struggled to make ends meet.

She

went to the Convent of the Sacred Heart, a private Roman Catholic school for all girls, from the age of eleven. Gaga describes herself as “extremely focused, very studious, very disciplined” in high school, but also “a little insecure.” She saw herself as an outcast, and she was teased for “being either too provocative or too weird.” On January 20, 2021, Gaga sung the US national anthem during the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States.

Ryan Fischer, her dog walker, was shot in Hollywood in February 2021, and was taken to the hospital. Koji and Gustav, two of her French Bulldogs, were abducted, but Miss Asia, a third dog, escaped and was later found. Gaga later offered a $500,000 prize for her pets’ return.

A woman delivered the dogs to a Los Angeles police station two days later, on February 26. Both of them escaped with their lives intact. The woman who dropped off the dogs did not appear to be connected in the incident at first, but she was one of five people accused in connection with the shooting and theft on April 29, according to Los Angeles Police.

Gaga partnered with Champagne company Dom Pérignon in April 2021, and starred in a Nick Knight-directed commercial. Her third remix album, Dawn of Chromatica, was published on September 3rd. On September 30, she released Love for Sale, her second collaboration with Tony Bennett. The album was well-received, and it debuted at number eight in the United States.

Gaga adopted an Italian accent for the role. She also spent 18 months in character, speaking with an accent for nine of those months. Her method acting style had taken a toll on her mental health, and she had to be escorted on set by a psychiatric nurse at the conclusion of filming.  Critics lauded Gaga’s performance as “note-perfect,” despite the film’s mixed reception.
