Needtobreathe is a Christian rock band from the United States, based in Seneca, South Carolina. Bear Rinehart (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Seth Bolt (backing vocals, bass), and Josh Lovelace (drums) make up the band (backing vocals, keys).

In Possum Kingdom, South Carolina, brothers William Stanley “Bear” Rinehart III and Nathaniel Bryant “Bo” Rinehart grew up. After relocating to Seneca, the brothers began performing. Their father, a minister, maintained a church camp where the Rinehart brothers grew up.

Bear Bryant, who was named after University of Alabama football coach Bear Bryant, was a wide receiver for the Furman Paladins football team, winning the 2002 Banks McFadden award for South Carolina football player of the year, and the brothers initially performed in front of coffee house crowds at Furman University. Bear, Bo, and Joe Stillwell teamed up with Seth Bolt after graduation to release independent albums produced at Bolt’s Plantation Studios.

The band’s name is based on a Greek demonstrative fable of Socrates about finding God, and Bo Rinehart said it was better than the band’s previous names at the time.

The Feature, the band’s eleven-song album, was released independently in 2001. Soulrock Review, a three-song EP, was released in 2003. Fire and Turnaround, two four-song EPs, were released in 2004. These attracted the attention of Universal Music Group’s Lava Records, which signed the band in 2005.

The band flew to the UK to make their debut studio album, Daylight, with producer Andy Green after signing with both Atlantic Records and Sparrow Records. Early in 2006, the band released their first radio song, “You Are Here,” which was previously released on the Fire EP in 2004. The band was featured on the cover of CCM Magazine just before their first release, an unparalleled new artist endorsement by the national journal. On April 4, 2006, Daylight was launched.

In late 2006, Needtobreathe began pre-production on their second studio album, The Heat. The band began a six-month recording session in Atlanta at Rick Beato’s Black Dog Studio and Paul Diaz’s Tree Sounds in 2007. The Heat was released by Atlantic Records and Word Entertainment on August 28, 2007.

The Reckoning was released on September 20, 2011 and reached number six on the Billboard 200 chart. The album’s first song, “Slumber,” reached number 26 on the Christian rock charts, while the album’s second song, “Drive All Night,” reached number 27. In 2011, the band toured with Taylor Swift as the featured opening act on her Speak Now World Tour.

Eric Ryan Anderson’s video Prove the Poets Wrong, which chronicles the band’s 2013 performances and revisits their roots, was posted on YouTube on December 17, 2013.

Hard Love, the band’s sixth studio album, was announced on April 1, 2016, with a July 15, 2016 release date. The band’s 2016 tour, Tour De Compadres, was also announced, and the album’s first track, “Happiness,” as well as another song, “Money & Fame,” were published. [two] With 50,000 copies sold, including 46,000 traditional album sales, Hard Love debuted at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200, marking the band’s highest-charting album.

were the opening act for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw on their Soul2Soul The World Tour 2017 from April 20–22, 2017.

On June 11, 2020, the band released their seventh studio album, Out of Body. Out of Body is the band’s debut record under Elektra Records and will be released on August 28, 2020. It is the band’s first album without prominent member Bo Rinehart.

The band released four singles prior to the album’s release: “Seasons,” “Hang On,” “Survival” (with Drew & Ellie Holcomb), and “Who Am I.” The band postponed the anticipated “Out of Body Experience Tour 2020” until 2021 because to the COVID-19 epidemic. On the day of the album’s release, the band held “Celebrating Out of Body,” a ticketed livestream event as an alternative to the live tour. On October 14, 2020, a new version of “Who Am I” was released, starring singer-songwriter Elle King. “Into the Mystery” was uploaded on YouTube on May 6, 2021.
