Josep “Pep” Guardiola Sala (born January 18, 1971) is the current manager of Premier League team Manchester City. He is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time, having won the most straight league games in La Liga, the Bundesliga, and the Premier League. uardiola was a defensive midfielder who mainly played as a playmaker in the middle. He played the most of his career for Barcelona, where he was a member of Johan Cruyff’s Dream Team, which won the club’s first European Cup in 1992 and four consecutive Spanish league titles from 1991 to 1994. Guardiola temporarily coached Barcelona B after retiring as a player, winning the Tercera División title with them, before taking over as manager of the senior squad in 2008. He led Barcelona to the triple of La Liga, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Champions League in his first season as first team manager. Guardiola made history by being the youngest manager to win the aforementioned European tournament. Guardiola was given the Catalan Parliament’s Gold Medal in 2011, after guiding the team to another La Liga and Champions League double.

Guardiola, who was born in Santpedor, Barcelona, Catalonia, joined La Masia at the age of 13 and progressed through the levels of Barcelona’s junior system for six years until making his debut against Cádiz in 1990. In Morbo, Phil Ball writes, Johan Cruyff showed up unexpected to the Mini Estadi, a facility used by Barcelona B just down the road from Camp Nou, in his first week at the club. He strolled into the dugout just before halftime and inquired of Charly Rexach, the youth team manager at the moment, about the name of the young guy playing on the right side of midfield. The response was, “Guardiola – nice guy.” Cruyff dismissed the remark and instructed Rexach to shift him towards the centre for the second half, where he would serve as a pivot. Guardiola joined Serie A team Brescia as Andrea Pirlo’s successor in the deep-lying playmaking role after leaving Barcelona in 2001 at the age of 30, where he played with Roberto Baggio under manager Carlo Mazzone. Guardiola moved to Roma after his time with Brescia. His stay in Italy, on the other hand, was a failure, with a four-month ban for testing positive for nandrolone. Guardiola was exonerated of all allegations relating to the suspension on appeal six years later, on October 23, 2007. CONI, on the other hand, renewed the case against the player since the absolution was deemed insufficient, but he was cleared again on September 29, 2009. Guardiola elected to play in Qatar with Al-Ahli from Doha in the Qatar Stars League after his career with Brescia and Roma ended in 2003. He was joined by many other greats, like Gabriel Batistuta. He had turned down another Manchester United offer because he want to play elsewhere. He became a regular in the Qatar Stars League and is widely regarded as one of the league’s greatest players. Guardiola also played for the club in the 2004–05 Arab Champions League, and in the first leg of the competition’s first round, he missed a penalty in the 19th minute, hitting the crossbar, but then converted his second chance in the 73rd minute. Guardiola made his senior debut against Northern Ireland in a 0–0 tie at Windsor Park in a World Cup qualifier on October 14, 1992.
