Pharrell Lanscilo Williams  He formed the hip hop and R&B production group The Neptunes with close colleague Chad Hugo in the early 1990s, with whom he has produced songs for a variety of recording artists. He joined the band N.E.R.D., which he founded with Hugo and drummer Shay Haley, as lead vocalist in 1999.

In 2015, a unanimous jury found that Williams’ co-written and produced song “Blurred Lines” was an infringement of Marvin Gaye’s 1977 song “Got to Give It Up.”According on the revenues earned, the jury awarded the Gaye family $7.4 million in damages for copyright infringement.  Williams was named artist-in-residence at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in October 2015.


On May 17, 2017, he earned an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree and presented the 2017 commencement address at the university. Sweetener, Ariana Grande’s fourth studio album, was released in 2018, and Williams collaborated with her on it (2018). He is featured on the track “Blazed” and produced numerous tracks on the album.

and the city of Virginia Beach announced in March 2019 the beginning of Something in the Water, a three-day music and cultural festival set to take place on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront during College Beach Weekend, April 26–28. Travis Scott, Migos, Janelle Monáe, SZA, Rosalia, Anderson Paak, Jhene Aiko, Mac DeMarco, Maggie Rogers, Lil Uzi Vert, Missy Elliott, Pusha T, Dave Matthews Band, and DRAM were among the artists who performed at the festival.

Williams founded a hip hop trio called Surrounded by Idiots in the early 1990s with Hugo, Timbaland, and Magoo, but the group disintegrated before recording any albums. With friends Shay Haley and Mike Etheridge, he then founded The Neptunes, a four-piece “R&B-type” band.
