Samuel Frederick Smith is an English singer-songwriter who was born on May 19, 1992. They rose to notoriety after being featured on Disclosure’s breakout hit “Latch,” which reached number eleven on the UK Singles Chart in October 2012. Smith then appeared on Naughty Boy’s “La La La,” which went to number one in May 2013.

They were nominated for the 2014 Brit Critics’ Choice Award as well as the BBC’s Sound of 2014 poll in December 2013, and they won both. In the Lonely Hour, Smith’s debut studio album, was released by Capitol Records UK in May 2014.”Lay Me Down,” the album’s first hit, came out before “La La La.” “Money on My Mind,” the album’s second single, was Smith’s second number one hit in the United Kingdom.

Their third single, “Stay with Me,” was a global hit, reaching number one in the UK and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, while their previous singles “I’m Not the Only One” and “Like I Can” all charted in the UK’s top ten. At the 57th Annual Grammy Prizes, the album won four awards, including Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, as well as nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.


Smith received the Golden Globe Award and the Academy Award for Best Original Tune for his and Jimmy Napes’ song “Writing’s on the Wall,” the theme song for the James Bond film Spectre (2015). The Thrill of It All, Smith’s second studio album, was released in November 2017 and debuted at number one on both the UK and US album charts.

“Too Good at Goodbyes,” the lead single, went to number one in the UK and Australia, and number four in the United States. They collaborated with Calvin Harris on the tune “Promises,” which reached the UK’s top spot. Smith released “Dancing with a Stranger” with Normani in 2019, which reached the top ten in the UK and US and was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2020 Brit Awards.

Smith announced on February 13, 2020 that his third studio album, To Die For, would be released on May 1, 2020.Smith revealed on March 30 that the release of their third album would be delayed owing to the continued impacts of the COVID-19 epidemic, and that the track list and title would be altered while they worked on it.

They did say it would be launched in 2020, though. On April 16, he released “I’m Ready,” a collaboration with American singer Demi Lovato, which scored well in various countries’ top 40. The cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You” by Smith was released on July 6th. They performed the song for the iHeartRadio Living Room Series earlier in May.

They debuted a new song, “Diamonds,” on September 17th, and then revealed the title of their third album, Love Goes, on October 30th.  They announced on September 29 that their sole live performance of 2020 will be a livestream concert from Abbey Road Studios in London on October 30.

The concert featured guest appearances by British actress Jade Anouka on “My Oasis” and singer Labrinth on “Love Goes,” as well as a cover of “Time After Time” that was praised by the song’s original singer and writer Cyndi Lauper.  Love Goes: Live at Abbey Road Studios was recorded and released on March 19, 2021 as a live CD.

Smith collaborated with Summer Walker on a cover of “You Will Be Found” for the soundtrack album of the 2021 film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen, which was released in 2021. The film’s closing credits also feature their version of the song. Smith came out as gay in May 2014, and admitted to having a relationship with actor and model Jonathan Zeizel, which he has since dissolved.

When the 57th Grammy Awards were handed out, “”I want to thank the man who this album is about, who I fell in love with last year,” they said after winning a Grammy for “Stay with Me.” Thank you for shattering my heart by winning four Grammy Awards!” The Thrill of It All, Smith’s most recent album, was released in October 2017, and it featured “the gay guy I’ve become.”
